Y’all know these Heavenly Cheese Grits are always a hit...especially this time of year. They’re a cozy, crowd-pleasing side dish and pair perfectly with shrimp for a classic shrimp & grits, as well as lamb chops, herb-roasted chicken, and steak.

Turn cooking mode on

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 325° and thoroughly grease a 9x13 baking dish. Combine 2 quarts water and the salt in a large pot and bring to a boil.

Step 2

Add the grits and cook, stirring often, until tender but still pourable, about 12 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the cheese, garlic, and Ghee and stir until the cheese and butter are melted. Let cool to room temperature.

Step 3

Stir the eggs and milk into the grits. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the center is set and top is golden. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the parmesan. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted, about 10 minutes more. Serve immediately.

Step 4

To make the grits ahead of time, prepare all the way through spreading the grits in the baking dish in Step 3. Cover and refrigerate for up to 4 days. When you’re ready to bake, pull it out of the fridge, uncover, and bake as directed.
